The problems I had were a poor understanding of posing and handling people. You gave me the confidence of handling people and knowing the reasons why what I was doing would create the right results. I have now been able to build on that and develop my own style.

About Me

Gil Cox began his career in photography in London’s Fleet Street the home of the national and international press. His first job was with A.P. (Associated Press).
After several years as a press photographer, mainly working in Film, T.V. and Stage situations where he was photographing all the top actors he decided to leave the hectic world of newspapers behind and open his own studio.

Here he soon discovered that making portraits of “Jo Public” was a very different thing from photographing the famous who knew their “best side” and exactly how to pose for the best effect. Years of working with ‘everyman’ has taught him the psychology of getting the best result – often with difficult customers either by their temperament or their physical defects. “Everyone can be made to look good once you know how” – is the philosophy that built his business from a hometown studio with regular clients from all over the U.K. and Europe into an international business with studios in Hong Kong and South Africa.

His work has constantly won him awards and recognition from around the world:

  • He is Fellow and Past President of the British Institute Of Professional Photography

  • Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society

  • Hon. Fellow of the Dutch Institute of Professional Photography

  • Hon. Fellow of Fame (Norway)

  • He has been chairman of judges for the BIPP in the Portrait and Wedding sector

  • He has been a member of the judging panel for the Royal Photographic Society (Portrait Wedding & Theatrical) for many years.
